Located on the western shore of Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake, Mangetsu-ji Temple offers a serene escape with stunning views.
The highlight of this temple is the Ukimido, or “Floating Hall,” a beautiful pavilion that appears to float gracefully on the lake’s surface.

You can actually walk out to the Ukimido Hall, which extends over the surface of the lake—it might feel a little scary at first, but the view is well worth it.
On a clear day, you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the far shore of Lake Biwa.

At the entrance of Mangetsu-ji Temple, you’ll be greeted by a beautifully designed gate with a distinctive Chinese-style architecture.
Its vibrant and elegant appearance sets the tone for the peaceful experience that awaits inside.
